Charting a New Path Forward for Global Action Against Antimicrobial Resistance | Strategic Roundtable | WHA77

‘Global leaders will convene together in September 2024 for the second United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting (HLM) on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). This roundtable at WHA 77 will provide the opportunity for Member States to discuss the growing crisis of resistance to antimicrobial medicines and to consider human health and multi-sectoral actions to save millions of lives, safeguard economies, and ensure food safety and food security against AMR.’

‘2024 is an important year for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with the second United Nations General Assembly High-level Meeting on AMR taking place in September and the 4th Ministerial Meeting taking place from 15–16 November in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

‘These events along with the roundtable at the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly, provide the opportunity for Member States to commit to implementing specific outcome-oriented actions to address the global threat of AMR and chart a new path forward to accelerate global response.

‘This WHA roundtable will focus on how Member States can build on human health discussions and accelerate the global response to AMR. The strategic roundtable will have Ministers of Health, representatives from partner organizations, as well as survivor advocates providing a forum for dialogue and address specific priorities outlined in the WHO’s strategic and operational priorities to address drug-resistant bacterial infections. The discussion will reflect also on the Global Leaders Group on AMR (GLG) recommendations for consideration by Member States at the HLM on AMR, noting the supporting role of the Quadripartite Organizations and the GLG mandated by A/RES/76/257.’
