Micah in Jackson, Mississippi
Micah's mother had "no reason not to" be pro-vaccine. But because her friend had a child with autism, she decided to space out his shots. The family ended up with a different pediatrician after moving across state lines who wanted Micah caught up. So he received several antigens at the check-up, sparking a litany of downstream effects — a true "nightmare" to deal with. Micah even had to wear gloves to school to avoid reacting to the foods his classmates were eating. His message for those on the fence about immunizing is this: "If you're thinking about it, you need to think hard on the consequences because there are thousands upon thousands with different stories of how it's affected them. I may be one, but I was lucky in how it affected me." His family no longer vaccinates.
