FDA & NIH Workshop on Reducing Animal Testing

‘The purpose of this workshop is to discuss how the FDA and NIH can collaborate to reduce the animal testing currently performed for new drugs and other products. Speakers representing different centers within the FDA as well as from the NIH, NCTR, ARPA-H and international regulatory bodies will discuss their ideas, the science behind new approach methodologies (NAMs), examples where current animal research may be unnecessary or inappropriate and suggest policy changes which can catalyze change. We hope this workshop will help usher in a new era of improved safety and efficacy testing which focuses on human-centric methodologies and eliminates unnecessary and less informative animal-based testing.’
