Even amongst those who care about the environment, is there any true sense of alarm about the current state of our natural world? “No matter how much carnage [they] see,” many people continue to explain away or ignore the existential threat of a collapsing climate right in front of their faces. But because “we are in completely uncharged territory,” there will come a point in time when excuses for what is taking place will no longer suffice.
